To Obtain a State Job
Jobs at the Department of Public Service are generally filled through the competitive civil service examination process. Unless you are either a current State employee who is eligible for transfer, or a former State employee who is eligible for reinstatement, you must first meet the qualifications to take a specific exam, file for it and achieve a passing score. Your name will then be placed on an "eligible list" which is used when a State agency has a position to fill in that title. Copies of exam announcements are available at the New York State Department of Civil Service's web site.
