Energy Storage (Case 18-E-0130)
- New York State Energy Storage Roadmap: On June 21, 2018, the Commission released the State’s Energy Storage Roadmap. The Roadmap identifies short-term recommendations for how energy storage can deliver value to New York electricity consumers and cost-effectively address the needs, and demands of the grid, supporting the Governor’s energy storage target of 1,500 MW by 2025.

Comprehensive Energy Efficiency Initiative (Case 18-M-0084)
- Staff Report and Recommendations, On April 26, 2018, the Department of Public Service and NYSERDA filed the New Efficiency: New York white paper. Recognizing that energy efficiency is a cornerstone of New York State’s national leadership on clean energy and climate. This white paper establishes an ambitious 2025 energy efficiency target for New York State and proposes a comprehensive energy efficiency initiative to meet that target.

Value of DER (Case 15-E-0751)
- In March 2017, based on recommendations from an extensive stakeholder process, the Commission adopted the Value of Distributed Energy Resources (VDER) as a new compensation structure to more accurately and efficiently value distributed energy resources installed in New York. The Commission continues to monitor the needs of consumers, market participants and other stakeholders as this industry grows in the state and contributes to Governor Cuomo’s mandate to achieve 50 percent of the state’s electricity from renewable energy by 2030.

The Commission approved new rules through which electric utilities will offer customers financial payments to reduce the amount of electricity used during periods of high demand or system stress such as hot summer days. As a core component of REV, these programs will give consumers more options and control over energy bills, while also increasing utilities' ability to manage demand on their systems.

The Commission, with the issuance of a draft environmental impact statement, advanced its landmark REV and Clean Energy Fund initiatives that promote more efficient use of energy, allows deeper penetration of renewable energy resources, and encourages wider deployment of “distributed” energy resources, such as micro-grids, on-site power supplies, and storage.
